Bulldogs Sweep Mars Hill in Home Matchup

ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville's women's tennis team reached the halfway point of its season-opening six-match home stand, defeating Mars Hill, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club.
With the victory, the Bulldogs have opened their season with a 3-0 record.
The Bulldogs opened with a strong showing in doubles play, sweeping all three matches. The senior tandem of Emily Sidor and Lauren Watson-Steele made quick work of Kat Horner and Cassidy Wilson at No. 3, earning a 6-0 victory.
Brianna Taranto and Ami Grace Dougah, playing in the No. 2 spot, won their match against Sophia Pelaez and Victoria Franklin, 6-1. Lize Alet Morkel and Rosie Dickson took down Ines Rodriguez and Evan Lake of Mars Hill, 6-4, at the No. 1 spot.
The Bulldogs continued to put on dominating performances as the dual moved into singles play. Sidor, playing in the No. 3 spot, took down Pelaez, 6-0, 6-0, and Watson-Steele downed Victoria Franklin, 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot to give Asheville a 3-0 lead.
Dougah delivered the victory with a 6-2, 6-1 decision against Lake in the No. 2 spot. Morkel won a quick first set, 6-0, against Rodriguez at No. 1 singles. Rodriguez fought hard in the second set, but Morkel would take it, 7-5.
In the last two matches of the day, Anastasia Horvat defeated Mars Hill's Carli Stiles, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 5 spot, and Taranto quickly followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 6 against Horner.
The Bulldogs continue their home stand with a 3 p.m. matchup, Sunday, February 9, against Wofford, at the Asheville Racquet Club.
