Strong Start Fuels Bulldogs to Victory

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville women's basketball defeated Campbell Saturday afternoon by a score of, 60-52, inside Kimmel Arena.
Three Bulldogs scored in double figures in the victory. It is the sixth time this season that UNC Asheville has had three or more score 10 or more points. Nadiria Evans led UNC Asheville with 20 points. It was the second time this season that the junior guard has had a 20+ point scoring effort as she scored a career-high 24 versus ETSU on Nov. 23.
Amaryah Corpening scored a career-high 12 points. It is the third time this season that Corpening has scored 10+ points. Sonora Dengokl scored 14 for her seventh double-digit scoring game this season.
The Bulldogs came out firing as they outscored the Camels 15-11 in the first quarter of the game. The Bulldog defense created chaos on the court for the Camels as Campbell turned the ball over nine times through the first 10 minutes of play. UNC Asheville capitalized on their forced turnovers as they scored seven of their first 15 points off of turnovers. Evans started out hot as she scored eight points in the first quarter while going three for five from the field and one for one from beyond the three-point arc.
The Bulldog offense shot 54% from the field in the second quarter of the game as UNC Asheville put up 16 points and held the Camels to only nine. The Bulldogs' largest lead of the quarter was 13 but took an 11 point lead into the half with a halftime score of 31-20. Six different Bulldogs scored at least two points in the second quarter of play with Evans and Amaryah Corpening scoring four.
UNC Asheville won the third quarter of the game 17-13 as Evans once again led with six points. UNC Asheville twice extended their lead to 18 and ended the third up by 15. Brooke Jordan-Brown brought in four rebounds and went two for two from the field for four points.
The fourth quarter was a battle for the Bulldogs as Campbell scored 19 points. The Bulldogs managed to score 12 to keep the eight point lead at the end of play. Dengokl scored four points in the fourth quarter while Corpening and Scott each scored three.
UNC Asheville will play three games in the next week with the first being at USC Upstate, Monday, Jan. 6, for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
