Bulldogs to Take on Lancers Saturday

FARMVILLE, VA. – UNC Asheville women's basketball will take on the Longwood Lancers in a 3 p.m. matchup, Saturday, January 25, inside Willet Hall in Farmville, Va.
UNC Asheville (11-6, 5-3) has jumped out to a 5-3 record in Big South Conference play. Three of the Bulldogs five victories have come from inside Kimmel Arena as UNC Asheville has defeated Presbyterian, Campbell and High Point at home. The Bulldogs defeated USC Upstate in the Hodge Center for their first Big South road win of the season before taking down preseason favorite Radford inside the Dedmon Center two weeks ago.
Since conference play began on Dec. 28, two Bulldogs have averaged a double-digit point total as Nadiria Evans has scored 13.6 points per game in conference play while redshirt senior Sonora Dengokl is currently averaging 14 points per game through the first eight Big South games of the season. Brooke Jordan-Brown is leading the Big South Conference with 14 rebounds a game since conference play began.
Longwood (8-9, 4-4) has started Big South Conference play 4-4. They opened conference play with a 4-1 record after defeating Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian, Charleston Southern and USC Upstate. Since their victory against USC Upstate on Jan. 11, the Lancers have lost three straight games to Radford, High Point and Winthrop. Longwood also lost to Campbell earlier this month.
The Bulldogs hold the 13-5 advantage in the all-time series versus Longwood. UNC Asheville swept the Lancers in two games last season as Longwood crept to a 3-27 record overall. The Bulldogs are 12-1 in the last 13 matchups between the two programs dating back to the 2013-14 season.

- Senior center Brooke Jordan-Brown corralled her 500th career rebound versus Gardner-Webb Tuesday night. The Greenville, SC native is now the 19th person UNC Asheville history to reach the total. She has averaged 14 rebounds per game since Big South Conference play began on December 28.
- Redshirt senior Sonora Dengokl has averaged 14 points per game since Big South play began. In fact, she has scored double-digit points in seven of the eight conference games the Bulldogs have played this season. The Sumter, SC native is currently sitting at 968 career points, leaving her just 32 points shy of the 1,000 point total for her career.
- UNC Asheville currently ranks 17th in the nation in offensive rebounds per game and 17th in rebounding margin. UNC Asheville is also 16th in total rebounds per game. The Bulldogs sit atop the Big South in all three categories. The Bulldogs have won or tied in the rebounding battle in 15 of their 17 games this season.
- UNC Asheville is second in the Big South at this point in the season at limiting three pointers. The Bulldogs aren't just making noise in the Big South with their ability to limit the three as they are 30th in the nation in 3pt FG defense. Opposing offenses are shooting just 26.9% from the three-point line against the Bulldogs.
- UNC Asheville is 21st in the nation in fewest points allowed and is currently second in the Big South in the category. UNC Asheville has allowed 60 points or less in all 11 of their victories this season.
- UNC Asheville had a 26 point scorer in consecutive games earlier this month. Sonora Denogkl scored a season-high 26 points in UNC Asheville's win against High Point. Nadiria Evans modeled that performance by scoring a career-high of 26 in the Bulldogs' win against Radford. Denogkl and Evans each scored in double figures in all four of the Bulldogs wins from Jan. 4-11.
