About the Bulldogs

UNC Asheville opens league play with a 5-11 overall record, and inside Greenwood Field, the Bulldogs are 2-1 with both wins being over Iona College.

In the two-game set against nationally-ranked Tennessee (No. 21), the Bulldogs had several players with multiple hits in the road series – Danny Wilson, Brandon Lankford and Carmine Pagano. Wilson had a two-hit game in the series opener, as he collected with all of the team's RBIs (four) on Tuesday. He also added a hit on Wednesday to extend his hit streak to 12 straight games. Lankford tallied a solo blast in Wednesday's contest to extend his Big South-leading home run total to seven on the year. Pagano added two hits in the series, which included a double and a RBI.

On the mound, four Bulldogs found success on the mound in Wilson, JP Perez, Hunter Hoopes and Trey Jernigan. Wilson started Wednesday's game, and he worked three innings without allowing an earned run. He scattered two hits and struck out one.  Perez pitched in both games and didn't allow a Volunteer to get a hit, as he held Tennessee scoreless. Hoopes and Jernigan tossed in Wednesday's game and didn't surrender a run, as each Bulldog tallied one strikeout.

About USC Upstate

USC Upstate travels to Asheville with an 8-9 overall record, as the Spartans tote a 1-1 road record this year. The Spartans defeated Davidson on the road but fell to Wofford earlier this month.

Six Spartans have double digits in hits this year, as four have 13 or more hits in 17 games – Robby McGaha, Jack Hennessy, Kim and Matthews.

The Bulldogs will see two right-handed pitchers – Jordan Marks and Jacob Thiessen – and one left-handed starting pitcher – Trey Van Der Weide – in the league-opening series. Marks leads the rotation, as he has started four games this year and totes a 2.57 ERA and a 1-2 record.
