Bulldogs Drop League Road Game at Presbyterian College

CLINTON, S.C. - Presbyterian College picked up a 67-44 Big South Conference victory over UNC Asheville men's basketball at the Templeton Center on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019.Â
The game opened with UNC Asheville (3-21, 1-9 Big South) scoring the first bucket of the game on a driving layup by DeVon Baker. The Bulldogs would lead 4-2 after a Coty Jude layup.Â
A 7-0 run over the next few minutes would allow the Blue Hose (14-11, 6-4 Big South) to take a 9-4 lead over the Bulldogs with a little under 13 minutes left in the first stanza. The Bulldogs were held without a field goal for over six minutes during the stretch.Â
The two teams would keep things close over the next few minutes, but with 5:15 left in the first half the Blue Hose would have their first double-digit lead of the day at 22-11.Â
The Bulldogs would trail the Blue Hose, 32-17, at the halftime break. UNC Asheville finished the first half shooting 37.5 percent (6-of-16) as a team. The Blue Hose shot 40 percent (12-of-30) in the first half.Â
Jalen Seegars led Asheville in the opening half with eight of the 17 points.Â
The Blue Hose would start the second half on a 12-4 run to own a 44-21 lead with a little over 16 minutes left in the contest. Presbyterian College would lead 54-30 with under eight left in the second stanza.Â
The Bulldogs would not be able to get much closer down the stretch with the Blue Hose taking the 23-point win.Â
UNC Asheville ended the game shooting 35 percent (14-of-40) from the field as a team, while Presbyterian College shot 49.1 percent (26-of-53) as a team.Â
The Bulldogs held a 31-25 rebound advantage in the game. Asheville had 10 offensive boards.Â
Baker was the only Bulldog in double figures with 14 points. He also had three rebounds and two assists.Â
Three players for Presbyterian College ended their efforts in double figures with Francois Lewis leading the way with 12 points.Â

UNC Asheville athletics has partnered with Firehouse Subs to honor, recognize and thank local First Responders in the community. UNC Asheville has designated Saturday, Feb. 9 as First Responders Day at Kimmel Arena. As part of First Responders Day, all local First Responders will receive a complimentary ticket to the men's basketball game against Charleston Southern at 2 p.m. at Kimmel Arena. First Responders will also receive a discount so that friends and family can attend the game as well. The special friends and family general admission ticket is just $7. Learn more HERE.Â
