Baseball Hosts UMBC For Three-Game Series At Big League Camp in Marion

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After a rescheduled midweek game at Wofford, UNC Asheville baseball will now host UMBC for a three-game set at the Big League Camp in Marion, N.C.
The series opener is still scheduled for a 3 p.m. start on Friday, Feb. 22. The second game of the series on Saturday will now start at 2 p.m. at the Big League Camp, while the series finale on Sunday is slated for a 12 p.m. start.
Due to unplayable field conditions along with renovations at Greenwood Field, UNC Asheville and UMBC will play the three-game series at the Big League Camp in Marion, N.C. The address to the facility is 3645 Yancey Road, Marion, N.C., 28752. The AstroTurf field will be the site of all three games this weekend.

Saturday: RHP Blake Brown vs. RHP Aaron Husson

About the Bulldogs
UNC Asheville travels to Wofford with a 0-3 overall record.
In the three-game series at College of Charleston, three Bulldogs tallied a trio of hits – Dominic Freeberger, Brandon Lankford and Wilson. Freeberger knocked a trio of singles and plated a RBI, and Wilson touched home twice and also totaled a RBI. Lankford was a force at the plate, as all three of his hits went for extra-bases. Highlighting the junior's weekend was a two-homer game on Saturday against the Cougars.
Blake Brown had one of the better starts for Asheville, as the right-handed pitcher started in the narrow 6-5 loss on Saturday. He twirled four innings and struck out four Cougars. Freshman Joe Sondock was a key reliever in the opening weekend, as he appeared in two contests. Overall, he totaled 1.2 innings and only allowed one hit. Greg Gasparro and Freeberger tossed scoreless outings, as they each worked an inning of relief against College of Charleston.
Scouting the Retrievers
The UNC Asheville-UMBC series will be the season opener for the Retrievers, who boasted a 22-29 overall record last season.
UMBC returns a trio of key offensive threats in Zack Bright, Christian Torres and AJ Wright. Bright, who started in 47 games last year, hit .302 and collected a team-high 52 hits. Of his 52 hits, 17 were extra-base hits. He also drove in 33 RBIs. Torres started in 47 games last year and earned 11 RBIs and touched home 19 times. Wright, who was a .280 hitter a year ago, slugged .440 with 20 doubles and three home runs.
UMBC will open its 2019 season with junior college transfer Frank Fraschetti on the mound. On Saturday's tilt, Aaron Husson will get the start for the Retrievers. The sophomore went 5-1 and ended the year with a 5.57 ERA. He twirled 51.2 innings and struck out 35 batters. Nick Trabacchi will conclude the series, who started in four games last year and had 11 strikeouts in 18.1 innings of work.
Redshirt junior Stephen Schoch is a key reliever for UMBC. The reliever appeared in 24 games last year and accumulated 10 saves. Schoch worked 57.2 innings and struck out 71 batters.
