Evans Career Day Powers Bulldogs to Third Straight Victory

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – UNC Asheville women's basketball defeated ETSU, 72-54, Saturday evening inside Brooks Gymnasium for their third straight victory. The Bulldogs have begun the season 3-0 for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
Junior Nadiria Evans set a new career high and led the Bulldogs with 24 points in the game. Evans previous career high was 21 which she did twice last season.
The Bulldogs kicked off the scoring as senior Zip Scott hit a jumper from three 15 seconds into the game. Scott would go onto hit another three pointer a couple minutes later as she scored six in the first quarter of the game.
The Bulldogs had a 19-16 lead at the first quarter break as they held the 11-5 rebounding advantage over the Bucs. UNC Asheville had the 10-0 advantage in the first quarter on second chance points.
At the half, UNC Asheville carried a 32-27 lead and Evans led with seven points. Evans and freshman Faith Adams both hit three pointers in the second quarter and redshirt senior Sonora Dengokl added her own three point play on a drive to the basket where she was fouled, made the layup and added the and one from the free throw line.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 13 point lead with 5 minutes left in the third quarter on the heels of Evans' nine points in the first five minutes of the half. The Bulldogs dominated the third quarter as they outscored the Bucs 24-13 to take a 16 point lead going into the final quarter. Evans scored 11 points in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs outscored ETSU in the fourth quarter 16-14 to maintain their lead and claim the 72-54 victory.
Scott scored in double figures for the third straight game with 11 points while Dengokl scored 10 for her second double digit point total of the season.
The difference in the game proved to be the second chance point total. The Bulldogs took advantage of every opportunity and scored 27 points on second chances while ETSU scored only four on their second chance opportunities.

I hope we can carry some momentum, our next game is at home against UNC Greensboro on Black Friday. We would like to make it 4-0. I'll always say, 3-0 one to go!"

- Saturday's victory was the first time the Bulldogs have defeated ETSU on the Bucs' home court.
- UNC Asheville has now won two in a row against ETSU for the first time in history after defeating the Bucs 56-55 last season inside Kimmel Arena.
- Saturday's 18 point victory is the largest Bulldog victory against ETSU. The previous high was a six point victory in the 2003-04 season.
- Nadiria Evans scored a career-high 24 points. It is the most scored by a Bulldog this season.
- Amaryah Corpening set a new career high with five rebounds. It is the second straight game that the junior guard has set a new career high as she set one with 11 points scored earlier this week at Western Carolina.
- Brooke Jordan-Brown has reached a double-digit rebounding total for the second straight game. The senior center has now corralled 10 rebounds in both games played this week.
- The Bulldogs have begun the season 3-0 for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
- The Bulldogs held the advantage in second chance points 27-4.
- UNC Asheville scored 34 points in the paint. It is the second straight game the Bulldogs have scored 30+ points in the paint.
- UNC Asheville out-rebounded ETSU 42-27.
