About UNC Asheville
UNC Asheville enters the weekend showdown with a 1-3-3 overall record and a 0-0-1 mark in league play.
In its most recent match, Asheville rallied from being down, 2-0, to tie Longwood, 2-2, to open Big South play on Sept. 19. Kyra Kandel netted the first goal for the Bulldogs off a penalty kick, and Gillian Oyos netted her second collegiate goal early in the second half. Kandel assisted Oyos on her goal, which marks the second time this year a Bulldog has earned three or more points in a single contest (Emily Duenas – versus The Citadel on Aug. 31).
On the year, Oyos is the lone Bulldog to have netted two goals. Four other Bulldogs – Kandel, Duenas, Skyler Chillson and Justine James – have all recorded one goal this season.
Kandel is the team's leader in assists, as she has a pair in her senior campaign. Oyos, Duenas and Maya Gutman all have tallied an assist this season.
In net, Courtney O'Malley has started back-to-back contests, as she sports a team-best 0.82 goals against average and .919 save percentage. She has the team's lone shutout of the year and has an undefeated record (0-0-3). In her last two starts, she has corralled an astounding 28 saves.
Scouting Campbell
Campbell travels to Asheville with a 1-7 overall mark and a 0-1 record in Big South competition. The Camels are currently on a seven-game losing and goal-less streak.
In its first league contest of the year (at Radford), Campbell was upended, 4-0, as two different Highlanders netted a goal in the game. The Camels also surrendered a pair of own goals in the mid-week conference match.
The 2018 Big South Preseason Attacking Player of the Year Alexa Genas leads the Camels with two goals, which came in the 4-0 rout of South Carolina State in the season opener. Shannon Wratchford and Kylee Arno each have a goal as well.
The Camels have used three goalies this year, but senior Erin Scott has received a bulk of the action. The transfer from Creighton has played in all eight games and has totaled over 600 minutes of action between the posts. She totes a 2.08 goals against average and a .754 save percentage.
Last Time Out Versus the Camels
The last time the Bulldogs and Camels squared off was last year in Buies Creek, N.C. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the match, but Campbell started to chip away at the deficit and eventually won 4-2 on its home turf. Genas netted a hat trick in last year's match.
Two years ago in Asheville, Campbell claimed another come-from-behind victory, as it won 2-1. Paige Trent scored UNC Asheville's only goal right out of halftime, but the Camels scored back-to-back goals to claim the one-goal win on the road.
