UNC Asheville Drops First Big South Home Game of the Season

09.22.2018 | Women's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – For the first time this season, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team fell in Big South Conference play, as the Bulldogs slipped, 2-0, to Campbell at Greenwood Field on Saturday.

BULLDOG BITES

How It Happened

The Camels struck first to open the game in the 10th minute. Emma Bushee worked up the left side of the field, and from outside of the 18-yard box, she placed a perfect shot into the top-right hand corner. The goal gave the Camels the 1-0 lead early in the game.

A few seconds later, junior defender Taylor Barber had an opportunity to find the back of the net for Asheville, but the Camel goalkeeper made the save to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.

At the 32nd minute, Campbell doubled its lead to 2-0. Cameron Turner scored off a rebound to go up by a pair of goals.

At the halftime break, the Camels had five total shots and put three of those on frame. The Bulldogs had one shot, which was also on goal.

Neither team found momentum out of halftime, but senior defender Kyra Kandel, who scored in Asheville's last game at Longwood, nearly scored in the 70th minute. She corralled the loose ball and wove through the Camel backline. She had a solid look at goal, but the attempt sailed high.

In the final 20 minutes of play, Asheville put two shots on goal, but neither attempt rippled the net.

Campbell ripped two shots in the final five minutes of regulation, but Courtney O'Malley made a save, while a Bulldog blocked the second attempt.

Neither team was able to net a goal in the second half, which sealed the two-goal victory for the Camels.

Overall UNC Asheville took four shots with three being on goal. Campbell connected with 11 shots and put six on frame.
