ASHEVILLE, N.C. – For its lone game of the week, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team travels to Charleston Southern on Sept. 29 to square off with the Bucs at 1 p.m. at CSU Soccer Field.

About UNC Asheville

UNC Asheville enters the weekend contest with a 1-4-3 overall record and a 0-1-1 mark in Big South Conference play. In its last four matches, the Bulldogs are a respectable 1-1-2.

In road contests this year, the Bulldogs have seen three different players score – Gillian Oyos, Kyra Kandel and Justine James. Kandel and Oyos have combined for the team's two assists in road matches.

In Big South matches, Asheville is 0-1-1 with its tie being a 2-2 draw at Longwood. Kandel and Oyos each netted a goal in the conference-opening match versus the Lancers.

Scouting Charleston Southern

CSU is 4-2-2 on the year and 1-1-1 in Big South Conference play. The Bucs have played in four straight contests that have gone into overtime. Of those four overtime contests, the Bucs came out victorious in two.

At home, CSU is unbeaten, as it is 2-0-2 inside the confines of the CSU Soccer Field.

The Bucs have scored 10 goals this year (1.25 goals per game) and are led by Kayla Robinson and Riley Rumbley, who each have two goals.

Sidney Doherty is the team's leader in assists, as the senior midfielder has accumulated a pair this season.

In net Charleston Southern has used two goalkeepers – Jazmin Gonzalez and Alyssa Dellacqua. Gonzalez has earned the bulk of the starts (six), as she has totaled over 580 minutes between the posts. She has a 1.08 goals against average and owns three of the team's four victories.

Last Time Out Versus the Buccaneers

In last year's head-to-head contest, the Bulldogs were upended, 3-0, by the Bucs at Greenwood Field. Jordan Newman netted a pair of goals for the Bucs, while Peyton Motley scored her first goal of the year.

The last time the two clubs met at CSU Soccer Field was in 2016, and the Bucs edged the Bulldogs, 1-0. Kelly Hinkle netted the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute. Overall the Bulldogs took 14 shots and put six on frame in that matchup.

What's Next?

The Bulldogs return to Greenwood Field on Wednesday, Oct. 3, as they take on Gardner-Webb. The Runnin' Bulldogs are currently in second place in the Big South with a 6-2-1 overall record and a 2-1 mark in league contests.
