The game opened with fireworks from UNC Asheville in the bottom of the first inning. Joe Zayatz kicked off things for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the inning by doubling down the right field line.
A couple of batters later, Zayatz was moved over to third when Joe Gruszka grounded out to the High Point first baseman.
Danny Wilson took advantage of the situation for the Bulldogs next when he singled to right-center field to score Zayatz and give the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage.
UNC Asheville would hold that same 1-0 lead until the top of the fifth inning when High Point plated one run in the inning to tie things up at 1-1.
The score would stay tied up at 1-all until the top of the ninth inning when High Point scored two to take a 3-1 lead they would never relinquish.
One inning earlier, UNC Asheville threatened to take the lead first, but the Panthers were able to get out of a jam with Bulldogs at second and third with only one out to leave the score at 1-1 going into the ninth inning.
Down 3-1 entering the bottom of the ninth, UNC Asheville started things off in the inning with back-to-back singles by Brandon Lankford and Anthony Cuozzi, but a double play and a ground out shortly thereafter ended things with High Point taking the two-run win.
Overall, High Point narrowly out-hit the Bulldogs, 8-7, in the game.
Lankford was the only Bulldog with multiple hits in the game. He was 2-for-3 in the contest with a double.
Tanner Wells and Carson Jackson led High Point in game one of the series with two hits each.
The final of three pitchers utilized on the day by High Point, Rion Murrah improved to 4-2 on the season with the win over the Bulldogs. He dealt the final two innings, allowing four hits. He struck out one.
UNC Asheville also used three pitchers in the game with Jordan Fulbright (1-5) taking the loss in relief of starter Blake Brown. Fulbright fanned four in his 3.1 innings on the mound.
Brown pitched well in his 4.2 innings on the hill. He gave up just three hits and struck out four. Kole Harris pitched a scoreless top of the ninth for UNC Asheville.

What's Next?
The second game of the series on Saturday, May 12, is truly going to be a blast as it will not only be "Sandlot Saturday," but it will also be "Senior Day" and "Mike Gore Appreciation Day" at Greenwood Field.
Make sure to arrive early on Saturday to help UNC Asheville baseball honor its seniors prior to the start of the 3 p.m. game.
In honor of UNC Asheville legend Mike Gore being inducted into the Big South Hall of Fame, the athletics department will have Gore throw out the first pitch on Saturday, May 12. He will also be honored in different ways throughout the course of the game.
The fun on Saturday continues after the game as part of "Sandlot Saturday." Following the game, all children are invited to join the Bulldog baseball team on the field for a game of catch. Children are encouraged to make sure and bring their gloves for all of the fun.
Plus, it is Graduation Day at UNC Asheville on Saturday. As part of the celebration, all new UNC Asheville graduates and their families can attend the game for free on Saturday.
In addition to all of this, UNC Asheville will also be giving out special "Senior Day" trading cards to the first 100 in attendance at Greenwood Field. There is even rumor of limited Mike Gore trading cards in honor of "Mike Gore Appreciation Day."
