Highlights
Both teams started the contest with a hit in the first inning. Pagano posted UNC Asheville's first hit of the contest, as he connected with a screaming single over the shortstop's head. Neither team was able to capitalize in the first frame.
ETSU scored the game's first runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Bucs posted three straight hits to start the frame, which resulted in a 3-0 lead.
The Bulldogs quickly retaliated in the top of the third, as they tallied a trio of runs to knot the game at 3-all. Madole started the frame with a towering home run off the scoreboard in left field. After Kole Harris drew a six-pitch walk, Pagano plated his teammate with a double to deep left field. The inning was capped off with a third run, as Pagano swiped second and scored on a throwing error by the ETSU catcher.
The Bucs posted a three-run fourth inning to regain the three-run lead – 6-3. Aaron Maher, Chris Cook and Christian Bailey tallied the three RBI hits in the frame.
Both squads posted a quiet fifth inning, but in the sixth frame, the Buccaneers tacked on five runs to take an 11-3 advantage.
UNC Asheville struck for a run in the top-half of the seventh. The Bulldogs collected three hits, as Joe Zayatz, Madole and Danny Wilson each tallied a hit in the frame. Harris earned the RBI for Asheville, as he connected with a sacrifice fly.
Up 11-4, East Tennessee State University posted an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.
The Bulldogs sent up four batters in the final inning, but the Bucs held Asheville off the scoreboard to seal the 12-4 victory.
Madole and Pagano posted four of the team's six hits on Tuesday. Two of those four hits went for extra-bases, as Madole connected with a solo homer and Pagano connected with a double. Harris earned the team's third RBI, and Wilson and Zayatz each contributed a single in the mid-week game.
Jesse Juday and Jordan Fulbright had the best outing out of the bullpen for the Bulldogs, as they each posted a scoreless inning in relief. Juday allowed just one hit and struck out one, and Fulbright didn't allow a hit or walk en route to a perfect inning of relief.
The Bulldogs fall to 6-17 overall, and ETSU moves to 14-7 on the year.
What's Next?
UNC Asheville returns to Greenwood Field on Thursday, March 29, to host its first conference series of the season. The Bulldogs will entertain Campbell for a three-game set.
