Bulldogs Win Defensive Battle Versus Campbell

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team won a defensive battle on Tuesday versus Campbell, as the Bulldogs defended Kimmel Arena, 38-33, against the Camels.
The Bulldog defense allowed just 33 points, which marks the lowest points allowed by the Bulldogs since surrendering 32 points against Radford in the 2005 Big South Conference Tournament.

The two squads fought a defensive battle in the first half. The Bulldog defense recorded four steals and limited the Camels to a 40.4 field goal percentage. UNC Asheville limited Campbell to seven made field goals on 23 attempts. The Camels also attempted five three-pointers, but they didn't convert on any in the first 20 minutes of action.
Despite the strong defense, Campbell held a narrow 18-15 lead at half. After the first two quarters, there were eight total lead changes and three ties. Nadiria Evans led the team in total points with four, and Bronaza Fitzgerald paced the squad with three rebounds.
At the end of the third quarter, the Bulldogs posted a five-point run, which was started with a clutch three-pointer by Khalia Webb. The squad continued the defensive battle throughout the third quarter, as the Camels held a narrow two-point lead (27-25) heading into the fourth stanza.
The fourth quarter was just what the Bulldogs needed, as they had their largest run of the game with seven points. Asheville out-scored Campbell 13-6 in the final 10 minutes, as the Bulldogs went on to win, 38-33.
UNC Asheville held Campbell to a 27.7 field goal percentage and a 9.1 three-point percentage in the contest. The Bulldogs capitalized on multiple offensive rebounds and earned 10 second-chance points.
Fitzgerald led the squad in points with 12, and Webb was second on the team with seven.
Fitzgerald corralled nine rebounds, as she fell one board shy of another double-double during her senior season. Behind her in total rebounds was Ali Trani. The guard corralled six rebounds, including four offensive boards.
UNC Asheville advances to 14-12 overall and 11-4 in the Big South Conference, while Campbell falls to 13-13 overall and 6-9 in league contests.
