Last Time Out
To make it seven straight road victories, the Bulldogs raced past High Point, 78-59, as Bronaza Fitzgerald, Jessica Wall and Khaila Webb combined for 63 of the team's points on Feb. 11 inside the Millis Center.
Despite only playing 23 minutes because of foul trouble, Fitzgerald matched a career high in points, as she dropped 23. The Danville, Va. native didn't miss a basket, as she went an impressive 10-for-10 from the field. The 10 made field goals matches a career high for the center, and the 10-for-10 performance matched a Big South Conference record that has stood alone since 1988 (Stephanie Howard, 10-for-10, Radford vs. Charleston Southern, Feb. 10). The 100 percent field goal percentage is the first time a Bulldog has done so since Amanda Brewer's 7-for-7 performance against Morehead State on Nov. 27, 1996. Fitzgerald also corralled 13 rebounds (five offensive and eight defensive), which marked her 14th career and 10th double-double of her senior season.
Wall also matched a career best in points, as the junior guard totaled 22 points. She was dangerous behind the three-point arc on Sunday, as she went a game-best 6-for-7. She was only one 3-pointer away from matching a career-best. In total, the Chapel Hill, N.C. native went 7-for-10 in 39 minutes of action, while also grabbing five rebounds and tallying a pair of assists.
Webb dropped 18 points in 35 minutes of action. She was second on the squad with two 3-pointers, and the Spartanburg, S.C. native was tied for the team-lead in assists with five.
Zip Scott finished the game with eight points. She also tallied five assists, which matches a career best for the guard.
Ali Trani set a new career high with eight boards, and of those eight, three came on the offensive glass. The Moseley, Va. native earned three assists and a steal in 34 minutes of play.
The dominant 19-point win at High Point ended a three-game head-to-head skid versus the Panthers. The win also marked the first victory inside the Millis Center since the 82-81 victory during the 2015-16 season.
Scouting the Buccaneers
Charleston Southern enters Tuesday's game with a 10-13 overall record and 5-7 mark in Big South games. In the last four games, CSU is 3-1 with victories over Presbyterian, Longwood and Campbell.
Despite not starting the first six games of the season, Njeri Nelms is one of the biggest offensive threats for CSU, as the Daytona State transfer leads the Buccaneers with 10.4 points per game (ppg). However, there are five other players on the CSU roster that average 8.0 ppg or higher this season. Weknyne Dumorne is the biggest threat defensively, as the junior forward averages 2.2 blocks per game and leads the team with 7.6 rebounds per game (rpg). In Big South games only, Dumorne leads the team with 11.3 ppg and 9.0 rpg.
All-Time History Versus Charleston Southern
Tuesday's game will mark the 68th all-time meeting between the two clubs, as CSU holds a narrow 35-32 advantage. However in the last five meetings, Asheville is 4-1.
In the 78-61 road victory earlier this season, Webb dropped a game-high 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting. She was also 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. Wall netted 17 points on 5-for-9 shooting behind the three-point arc, while also tallying a pair of assists and a steal. Fitzgerald capped off the double-digit scoring for Asheville, as the senior scored 13 points. She also grabbed 11 rebounds, and Tiffany Wilson led the squad with 12 rebounds.
