Corpening, Jordan-Brown Match Career Highs in Road Loss at Furman

11.30.2018 | Women's Basketball

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Sophomore Amaryah Corpening and junior Brooke Jordan-Brown matched career highs on Friday, but the UNC Asheville women's basketball team fell to Furman, 58-47, inside Timmons Arena.

BULLDOG BITES

Game Highlights

UNC Asheville opened the road contest with a 4-0 run thanks to back-to-back made buckets from Sonora Dengokl. Furman then started to find its groove, as it took an 11-4 lead. The Bulldogs started to chip away at the deficit and were able to regain the lead late in the first quarter, 18-17.

The second quarter was quiet for both teams. Both the Bulldogs and Paladins combined for just six made field goals. However, five of those field goals were made by the Paladins, as they took a 27-19 lead into the locker room.

At the halftime break, Corpening had a game-high seven points, as she went 3-for-6 from the field.

The Paladins' lead quickly disappeared, as the Bulldogs opened the second half with a 9-1 run to tie the game at 28-all. The two squads continued to battle until the 2:37 mark in the third quarter, and then Furman ended the stanza with a seven-point lead, 41-34.

The Bulldogs again started to claw back into the contest, as it was just a two-point game with over nine minutes remaining in the game (41-39). However, Furman started to separate from Asheville and sealed the 58-47 victory over the Bulldogs.

Jordan-Brown and Corpening were the two high spots for UNC Asheville, as the duo matched career bests in the non-conference game. Jordan-Brown grabbed eight rebounds, and Corpening netted nine points.

Dengokl grabbed a season-high seven boards, including four on the offensive glass. The reigning Big South Conference Player of the Week finished with nine points and two steals.

Ali Trani also netted nine points, which is the second-most points this year for the senior.

UNC Asheville earned three blocks, as Trani, Jordan-Brown and Zip Scott combined for the three rejections.

Furman's offense was led by Taylor Petty, who connected with a game-high 17 points. Overall, there were four Paladins in double-digits.

UNC Asheville drops back to .500, as it goes to 3-3 on the year. Furman moves to 4-3 overall.
