BULLDOG BITES

About UNC Asheville

The Bulldogs enter the mid-week matchup with a 0-3 record. They almost found their first win of the season in the home opener on Nov. 18 versus Charlotte, but the 49ers narrowly edged the Bulldogs 51-47 inside Kimmel Arena. In the home opener, senior guard Khaila Webb paced the Bulldogs as she dropped 10 points, which was the third straight game she led the squad in points scored, and for the first time this year, the Spartanburg, S.C. native led the team in rebounds with seven. In her first start of her senior season, Bronaza Fitzgerald tallied nine points. Junior guard Jessica Wall added eight points with six of those coming late in the game with two three-pointers.

Webb still leads the squad in points per game (ppg) with 12.3, but Wall is right behind her teammate with 10.7. The duo have averaged the most minutes on the court with Wall totaling 35.7 minutes and Webb with 35 minutes per contest. Ali Trani is the third Bulldog averaging over 30 minutes per game as the junior is posting 32.7 minutes per contest. Juliet Esadah is leading Asheville in rebounds as she averages 5.3 per game, but Webb is right behind her with 5.0 per contest.

At the Big South Conference Media Day, the Bulldogs were selected to finish fifth, despite receiving the second-highest amount of first-place votes in the league. Radford earned seven of the total first-place votes as the Highlanders were selected the win the league.

UNC Asheville opens its conference portion of the schedule on Jan. 2 at Campbell followed by the conference home opener on Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. versus High Point.

Scouting Davidson

Heading into its fifth game this season, Davidson sports a 2-2 record. The Wildcats and Bulldogs have played similar opponents this year in Western Carolina (Davidson won 70-57) and NC State (Davidson lost 73-49). The Wildcats have also played Furman (lost 65-62) and Appalachian State (won 59-57) – both teams Asheville will play in the upcoming non-conference schedule. Wednesday's game will also be the home opener for Davidson as it has played all four contests on the road this season.

Leading the way this year in points per game is Justice Lyon as the junior guard is averaging 12.8 ppg, but Davidson has three players that are averaging double-digits in points per contest - Sarah Donovan (11.5) and Katie Turner (10.3) are the other two Wildcats. Senior forward Mackenzie Latt leads the team in rebounds per game as she averages 7.5, and Lyon and Donovan combine to average just over 10 rebounds per game.

As a team, they are shooting .333 from the field while opponents are shooting .416. However, Davidson makes 1.3 more three-pointers than the opposition this year as it records just under seven made three-pointers per contest. The Wildcats have out-muscled opponents in rebounds as it sports a +2.5 rebounding margin.

Prior to the season, Lyon was the lone representative for the Wildcats on the A-10 Preseason All-Conference Teams as she earned Second Team honors. As a team, Davidson was selected to finish 14th after a 6-23 season a year ago (4-12 in A-10 play).
