Baseball Falls in Midweek Contest to App State on Tuesday

App State jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the game with one run in the first, two in the in the second and five in the fourth, before Asheville got one back in the home half of the fourth when Ben Green scored on a Zeb Swangim groundout. App State would add two more runs in the top of the fifth, before Asheville would respond with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Logan Lowe began the inning reaching on an error in the App State infield, before advancing to second on a passed ball. Patrick Gillen would draw a one-out walk in the inning, before Owen Michelson would load the bases by drawing a walk. Green was hit by a pitch to score Lowe, before Tyler Parks brought home Gillen with a sacrifice fly in the inning. App State would tack on three more runs in the top of the sixth, before Asheville would score its final two runs of the game in the bottom of the seventh. Michelson was hit by a pitch with two outs to start the rally, before Green would single to right to push Michelson to third. After Green advanced to second, Parks would score him and Michelson with a single to left to cap off the scoring for the Bulldogs. App State brought the game to its final score with one run in the eighth and four runs in the ninth.

Gillen, Green, Eric Krumpe, Parks and Jake Pereira each had one hit in the game for the Bulldogs with Krumpe registering Asheville's lone extra-base hit. Parks drove in two runs in the game, while Green and Swangim each drove in one run. Green scored twice in the game, while Lowe, Gillen and Michelson each scored once. Green also stole one base in the game. Defensively, Asheville turned a pair of double plays in the game. Garrett Crum (0-3) took the loss on the bump for the Bulldogs, allowing one run on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts in one inning. He then passed the ball off to Branden Barna, who allowed three runs on five hits with two walks and one strikeout through two innings of relief. Daylinh Nguyen-Brown handled the next inning, before handing things off to Ryland Howell for two innings of relief. Nick Bruno and Nic Melton finished things off for the Bulldogs on the mound in the game.
