TOURNAMENT CHAMPS: UNC Asheville Wins Low Country Intercollegiate; Patterson Takes Individual Title

03.10.2026 | Women's Golf

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The UNC Asheville women's golf team captured the Low Country Intercollegiate title on Tuesday (March 10), while Caroline Patterson earned individual medalist honors. The victory marks the Bulldogs' first tournament win since 2019.

"Our team has been decimated by the flu, so to win by 18 strokes with only four healthy players available is really next level," said Head Coach Ross Cash. "It's hard to explain, but in my opinion it was incredibly impressive.

At our team meeting before the event, I showed the team a video about Team Hoyt—the father-son Ironman tandem where the son has cerebral palsy. I told the girls that the world might say we were at a big disadvantage this week with only four players, but the human spirit is indelible. In the video, the father becomes exactly what he tells himself he needs to be for his son. I told them, 'You are exactly what you tell yourself you are.'

They went out and got it done, and I couldn't be more proud."

The victory at the Low Country Intercollegiate marks the first win of Ross Cash's head coaching career at UNC Asheville.

BULLDOG TEAM FINISH

The Bulldogs shot rounds of 304–301–296 to finish with a 901 (+37). The 901 total marks Asheville's best team finish of the spring season, while the final-round 296 is the team's first sub-300 round of the spring and its lowest round since the UNCG Collegiate, where the Bulldogs opened with rounds of 295 and 294.

Asheville held a one-stroke lead over Richmond after the opening 18 holes and extended that advantage to eight strokes after the second round, as Richmond shot +20 in round two. Appalachian State sat in third following the second round but used a strong final round to move into second place, while Asheville extended its lead to 18 strokes over the Mountaineers.

The Bulldogs were the only team to shoot a sub-300 round in the entire tournament.
