08.14.2025 | Women's Soccer
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer dropped a hard-fought season-opener to visiting Miami (Fla.) by a score of 1-0 on Thursday (Aug. 14) at Greenwood Field. This game marked the first time since 2000 that UNC Asheville hosted an ACC opponent.
Â
Miami would strike first in the seventh minute to take their 1-0 lead when Moria Flynn struck the top left corner with her left foot off an assist from Ciara Alcaron. Asheville would create one of its best chances off the ensuing kickoff, when some nice passing found the feet of Nao Kawasaki with space in the middle behind the Miami defense. Kawasaki was held up on the play, leading to a red card for Miami's Crosby Nicholson and an Asheville free kick just outside the penalty box. The free kick was taken by Lili Adams, whose first shot as a Bulldog clanked off the near goalpost. The following possession for Miami led to one of five Hurricanes corner kicks in the first half, as a chance in the 19th minute allowed Miami to get a shot on net with Gracie Murray making a clutch save to keep the deficit at one.
Â
The Bulldogs finished the first half with four shots and one corner kick. Miami controlled the pace of the second half with eight shots to Asheville's three, forcing Murray to make four saves in the second period. Asheville was able to generate some offense in Miami's late half in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net.
Â
Asheville totaled seven shots in the match with three on target to go along with two corner kicks. Adams and Karlee Benz each registered two shots in the match to pace Asheville's offense, while Campbell Stoll, Manuela Schreier and Emmie Henderson each had one shot in the match. Adams, Benz and Henderson each put one shot on target in the match for Asheville, with Stoll, Adams and Henderson each registering the first shots of their Bulldog career. Gracie Murray stopped six shots between the pipes in the contest for the Bulldogs.
Â
The Bulldogs return to action on Sunday (Aug. 17) at Wofford in non-conference action. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. from Spartanburg, S.C. with live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
