Rally Falls Short for Baseball in Loss at New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, La. - UNC Asheville Baseball saw its rally fall short in a 3-2 loss at New Orleans on Sunday (Apr. 13).

After the teams traded three scoreless innings to open the game, New Orleans would jump out to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the fourth and another one in the sixth. Asheville would claw their way back into the game with two runs in the eighth, before getting the tying run to third in the ninth. Brock Mercado would begin the eighth inning with a pinch-hit walk, before Kolby Watson pinch ran for him. Watson moved to third on a single through the right side off the bat of Canon Pierce, before Watson would score on a sacrifice fly to center field by Jake Perieira. The lineup card would turn over for Corbin Lanowitz, whose single to center moved Pierce to third with just one out. After the second out was recorded, Rylen Stockton laced a single up the middle to score Pierce.
