Edmondson's Quality Start Not Enough in Loss at New Orleans

04.12.2025 | Baseball

NEW ORLEANS, La. - A quality start from Clay Edmondson was not enough for UNC Asheville Baseball on Saturday (Apr. 12) as they dropped a 5-4 decision at New Orleans.

Asheville jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top half of the second, starting with Blaize Johnson reaching on an infield single before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Johnson would move to third on a groundout, before Brock Mercado drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A fielding error off the bat of Canon Pierce moved Mercado to third and scored Johnson, before Pierce would steal second to put two in scoring position for Jake Pereira. Pereira would reach on a fielding error on the UNO infield, bringing home both Pierce and Mercado. New Orleans would get on the board with one run in the home half of the third, before Asheville would stretch its lead to 4-1 in the fourth when Corbin Lanowitz singled home Pierce. New Orleans would get one back in the home half of the sixth, before adding another in the eighth. The Privateers would rally with two in the ninth for the walk-off win.

Lanowitz, Logan Lowe, Rylen Stockton, Patrick Gillen, Johnson and Pierce each had a hit in the game for Asheville. Lanowitz, Pierce and Pereira each drove in a run, while Pierce scored twice and Johnson scored one run. Lowe and Pierce each also had one stolen base in the game. Edmondson tossed his fifth quality start of the season for Asheville, going seven strong innings on the bump allowing two runs while scattering four hits with a career-high 10 strikeouts and just two walks. Daylinh Nguyen-Brown (0-3) took the loss for Asheville, allowing three earned runs on three hits in 1.2 innings with one walk and four strikeouts.

The Bulldogs return to the diamond tomorrow (Sunday, Apr. 13) to wrap up the series. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. from New Orleans, La. with video, live stats and tickets available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
