Baseball Drops Series Opener at New Orleans on Friday

NEW ORLEANS, La. - UNC Asheville Baseball dropped its series opener at New Orleans by a score of 15-1 on Friday (Apr. 11).

New Orleans opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first, before Asheville's lone run came in the top of the third when Logan Lowe scored on a Patrick Gillen single to center field. New Orleans would score twice in the third, five times in the fourth and add another five runs in the sixth to bring the game to its final score.

Corbin Lanowitz and Rylen Stockton each had two hits to pace the offense, while Gillen and Jake Minarik each had one. Gillen drove in Asheville's lone run scored by Lowe. Tony Lopez (0-3) took the loss for Asheville allowing five runs, four earned on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts through two innings. He was relieved by a career-high 3.1 innings from Shea Walker who allowed nine runs, one earned on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout. Zachary Gaydos worked the last 0.2 innings for Asheville, allowing one unearned run along with one hit to go with one walk and two strikeouts.
