Offensive Explosion Helps Asheville Snap Skid at Queens (N.C.) on Tuesday

Queens struck first with two runs in the home half of the first and one in the third, before the Bulldogs would get on the board and take a big lead with five runs in the fourth and five in the fifth. Asheville started things in the fourth with Corbin Lanowitz's first home run of the year, a solo shot to right center. Rylen Stockton would single up the middle, before being pushed to third on a two-out double down the left field line by Jake Minarik. Patrick Gillen would slash a single through the right side to score them both, before walks behind him to Charlie Stogner and Coleman McGinnis loaded the bases. Jake Pereira brought home two runs on the first pitch he saw with a single to center to cap off the inning for Asheville. After Matthew Hall hung up a zero in the home half of the fourth on the bump, Asheville would hang up another five runs in the fifth for a 10-3 lead. Stockton would get things started with a one-out double down the left field line, before moving to third on an infield single by Blaize Johnson. Stockton would score on a RBI single through the left side from Minarik, before Gillen walked to load the bases. Stogner was hit by a pitch to bring Johnson home, before Pereira would bring two more runs home with a single to right with two outs in the inning. After a Queens pitching change and some movement on the bases, Stogner would score Asheville's final run of the inning coming home on a wild pitch.

Queens would respond in a big way in the home half of the fifth, scoring seven runs to tie the game 10-10. Asheville would respond with four runs in the sixth and one run in the eighth, keeping Queens off the board for the final four frames. Johnson got the sixth inning started with a two-out walk, before moving to second on a single up the middle by Minarik. Gillen would bring both men home on a double down the right field line, before he scored on a single to left by Stogner. Stogner would move to second on a single through the left side by McGinnis, before Pereira would drive in his fifth run of the evening with a single to right to score Stogner.

The win marks Asheville's first midweek win since a 7-6 win at Appalachian State back on Apr. 18, 2023. Minarik and Pereira each recorded a career-high three hits in the game, while Pereira recorded a career-high five RBI in the game marking the most RBI in a game for a Bulldog since Mar. 9, 2024 when Cameron Johnson drove in five against Niagara. Stockton, Gillen and Stogner each matched their career-highs in hits with two while Lanowitz, Johnson, Owen Michelson and McGinnis each had one hit in the game. Gillen also posted a career-high four RBI in the game, while Stogner had a career-high two and Lanowitz, Manarik and McGinnis each drove in one. Minarik, Gillen and Stogner each scored a career-high three runs in the game, while Stockton and Johnson each scored twice and Lanowitz and Johnny Brucato each scored once. Nick Bruno got the start on the bump allowing two runs on four hits in 1.2 innings with one walk and two strikeouts. He was relieved by 2.1 innings from Matthew Hall, who allowed one run on two hits with one walk and one strikeout. Tony Lopez relieved Hall, before Daylinh Nguyen-Brown (1-1) would collect his first win as a Bulldog out of the pen. He tossed 1.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts, before Nic Melton would come on to collect his first save of the year with three innings of relief. Melton didn't allow a hit while striking out six in his outing.
