Women's Basketball Falls to Longwood on Wednesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball fell to Longwood on Wednesday (Jan. 8) at Kimmel Arena by a score of 95-51.

Longwood jumped out to a 10-0 lead through the first four minutes, before Asheville started to find their offensive group with four quick points. Longwood closed the quarter on a 12-2 run to take a 26-6 lead to the second.

Longwood won the second quarter 28-10 to increase their lead at the half.

The Lancers would outscore Asheville 21-11 in the third quarter, while UNC Asheville won the fourth quarter 24-20 to bring the game to its final score.

Asheville outscored Longwood 12-8 on second chances in the game, while scoring 12 points off turnovers, 24 points in the paint, two points off fast breaks and 13 points off the bench. Asheville shot 29.9 percent (20-67) from the field, just 12 percent (3-25) from long range and a perfect 8-8 from the foul line in the contest. A career-high 18 points from Alana Swift led the way for Asheville while Dakota McCaughan added eight and Abigail Wilson and Deborah Orianegbena each had six, with Orianegbena notching a career-high. Skylar Bailey added five points, while LaImani Simmons had four and Taylor Wilkins and Trinity Barnes each had two. Orianegbena also posted a career-high 10 rebounds in the game to lead Asheville on the glass, while Wilson finished with nine and Swift, McCaughan, Simmons and Barnes each had three. Wilkins pulled down two rebounds in the game, while Bailey also had one. McCaughan paced the Bulldogs with four assists in the game, while Swift had three and Wilson, Orianegbena and Bailey each had one. Swift, Orianegbena and Bailey each registered steals in the game, while Simmons, Orianegbena and Bailey each had blocks in the game.
