Three Bulldogs Finish in Double Figures as Asheville Falls at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball saw three Bulldogs finish in double figures in a … loss at Wofford on Tuesday (Nov. 26).
The teams played to an 8-8 tie at the halfway point of the quarter, before trading buckets through the final five minutes as Wofford held a 14-13 lead through 10 minutes.
The teams went back and forth through the first few minutes of the second quarter, before Asheville countered with a short run to go ahead 20-17 and force a Wofford timeout. Asheville would respond out of the timeout to take a 25-20 lead, before Wofford responded with a run of their own over the last four-plus minutes to go ahead 32-25 at the break.
Wofford began to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 19-14 in the period for a 51-39 lead through 30 minutes.
Asheville cut the deficit to single-digits early in the fourth, before Wofford was able to pull away late in the fourth quarter.
Asheville shot 31.7 percent (19-60) from the floor in the game including 3-20 (15 percent) from downtown and 75 percent (15-20) from the foul line. Asheville outscored Wofford 23-19 off turnovers, 11-10 on second chances and 25-23 off the bench in the game, while also scoring 18 points in the paint and eight points off fast breaks. Dakota McCaughan matched her season-high with 13 points on 5-14 shooting including three triples, while LaImani Simmons put together her third double-digit effort of the season with 11 points and Jordan Tuff chipped in a season-high 10 points. This mark's Simmons first back-to-back double-digit scoring effort since her four-game streak last December of scoring in double figures. Taylor Wilkins added nine points off the bench, while Abigail Wilson had eight. Deborah Orianegbena and Alana Swift each had two points in the game, while Laney Bone had one. Wilson led the Bulldogs effort on the glass with six boards, while Simmons posted four rebounds and McCaughan and Tuff each had three. Wilkins and Orianegbena each had two rebounds in the game, while Nycerra Minnis, Swift and Briauna Thompson each had one. McCaughan dished out a game-high five assists, while Simmons and Wilkins each had two. Tuff notched a new career-high with a team-best three steals, while McCaughan and Skylar Bailey each had two with Bailey matching her career-high. Wilson, Swift and Orianegbena each had one steal in the game, while Wilson and Simmons each had one block.
