Women's Basketball Has Lead Slip Away in Loss to High Point Wednesday Night

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball saw a first quarter lead slip away in a 64-50 loss to High Point Wednesday night (Jan. 10) inside Kimmel Arena.
Asheville opened the game on a 13-0 run through the first 5:12, leading by as many as 18 in the frame and heading to the second with a 22-6 lead.
High Point found its offensive stride in the second quarter, winning the frame 23-10 as Asheville led 32-29 at the break.
The Panthers won the third quarter 19-3 to stretch their lead, before the teams played a close fourth quarter to bring the game to its final score.
Asheville shot 28.3 percent (15-53) from the field, just 8.3 percent (1-12) from beyond the arc and 76.0 percent (19-25) from the charity stripe in the game, as the Bulldogs notched season-highs in both attempts and makes at the free throw line in the game. LaImani Simmons led the Bulldogs with a career-high 21 points, tying a career-high in free throws made going a perfect 6-6 from the line on the night. Jaila Lee and Jamaya Blanks each had seven points on the night, while Faith Adams had five and Abigail Wilson had four. McKinley Brooks-Sumpter, Mallory Bruce and Nycerra Minnis each also had two points in the game. Blanks tied her career-high on the glass for the second time this season, leading all rebounding efforts with 10. Bruce pulled down six boards in the game, while Lee and Minnis each had three. Adams, Brooks-Sumpter and Briauna Thompson each pulled down two rebounds in the game, while Wilson and Millie Brown each had one. Brooks-Sumpter dished out a team-high two assists in the game, while Bruce, Simmons and Dakota McCaughan each had one. Simmons led Asheville with two steals in the game, while Bruce, Lee, Adams, Thompson and Wilson each had one.
