Bulldogs Fall at Western Carolina on Wednesday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team fell on the road at Western Carolina on Wednesday night in non-conference action by a score of 19-7. With Wednesday's setback, the Bulldogs move to 21-20 on the 2023 campaign.
 
Seven Bulldogs accounted for the team's nine hits on Wednesday. Dylan Bacot led the charge going 3-for-3 with two RBI, a pair of walks, and a pair of doubles. Kohl Abrams, Corbin Lanowitz, Tylan Reece, Drew Bristow, Fermin Osio, and Sam Gallardo also picked up hits for Asheville.
 
Western Carolina's offense was the story of Wednesday's contest. The Catamounts racked up 19 runs on 16 hits and scored at least one run in every inning except the first inning. Asheville's bats, meanwhile, scored three in the third to briefly seize a 3-2 lead on WCU. However, the Catamount bullpen kept the Bulldog offense quiet surrendering a run in the seventh and three in the ninth to finish off the 19-7 victory over the Bulldogs.
 
Asheville will step back into Big South play this weekend for a three-game series against No. 13 Campbell at Greenwood Field. The opening game of the series is set for a 5 p.m. first pitch time on Friday on ESPN+.
