For the fourth time in the last five games, Asheville finished with 12 or more hits. Corbin Lanowitz led the charge with a career-high four hits in a 4-for-5 day at the plate. Fellow Bulldogs Dylan Bacot, Michael Groves, and Ty Kaufman all had two-hit outings as well.
Asheville used a total of eight pitchers on Tuesday. Dawson Salter started the game and tossed 2.1 scoreless innings. Justin Honeycutt, Blake Little, and Spencer Hill all logged scoreless appearances as well.
Tuesday's game started well for the Bulldogs as Kohl Abrams slugged a solo home run in the bottom of the first to put Asheville in front, 1-0. A four-run third inning by the Bulldogs followed to grow the lead to five, 5-0. Kaufman and Tony Castonguay both doubled in runs, Groves drove in another with an RBI single, and Cameron Johnson tacked on another with a sacrifice fly.
Queens answered back with three home runs in the next two innings, including a grand slam to vault the Royals in front for the first time in the contest.
The Bulldog offense went quiet against the second and as it turns out last arm Queens would use, Daniel Bagwell. Bagwell threw five shutout innings to finish off the 8-5 win for the Royals after they tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning.
The Bulldogs will close out the season with a three-game Big South series at High Point. The series begins on Thursday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
