ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team fell to Wofford by a score of 13-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday night at Greenwood Field. With Tuesday's loss, the Bulldogs move to 21-19 on the 2023 season.
Asheville was limited to four hits on Tuesday. Dylan Bacot, Corbin Lanowitz, Tylan Reece, and Kohl Abrams accounted for the hits, which were all singles. Cameron Johnson also worked a pair of walks in the contest.
Five pitchers saw time on the mound for the Bulldogs on Tuesday. Chris Sabo, who got the start, allowed five runs on one hit to go with three walks and one strikeout. Justin Honeycutt pitched the best out of the Bulldog pitchers tossing three scoreless innings allowing just one hit.
Wofford jumped out to a sizable lead right away on Tuesday. A bases loaded walk made it 1-0 Terriers before a grand slam extended their lead to five runs before the Bulldogs had a chance at the plate.
Honeycutt threw a few zeros on the board for Asheville, but the Bulldog offense did not muster many scoring chances against Wofford's starter Mike Eggert. With Eggert dealing, Wofford tacked on six runs that included another grand slam. The Terriers added on two runs in the seventh to finish off the 13-0 win over the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will return to action on May 3 when they visit longtime mountain rival Western Carolina in non-conference action. First pitch for that matchup is set for 5 p.m.
