Baseball readies for a midweek matchup with Queens on Tuesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels to take on Queens University of Charlotte in a non-conference matchup. First pitch between the Bulldogs and Royals is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – Asheville finished off a three-game sweep of UMass on Saturday with 10-3 and 7-3 victories over the Minutemen in a doubleheader at Greenwood Field. With the pair of victories, Asheville is now 11-4 on the 2023 season.
Best Start Since – Asheville's 11-4 start is the best by the Bulldogs in program history. The Bulldogs have already won four series and swept three of those sets against Sacred Heart, Iona, and UMass. Only nationally ranked Campbell has won more games in the Big South this season than Asheville.
Bacot on Base – Dylan Bacot continues to get on base for the Bulldogs. Bacot has reached base successfully in all 15 games this season. Dating back to last season, Bacot has reached base in 17 consecutive games.
Count on Clay for Wins – Thanks to a seven-inning gem on Friday vs. UMass, Clay Edmondson picked up his fourth win of the season and boosted his record to 4-0. Edmondson's four victories are tied for the most in the nation.
No Hits for You – The Bulldogs will head to Charlotte as one of the stingiest pitching staffs in giving up hits. Asheville is allowing the fewest hits per nine innings (7.48) of any team in the Big South through the early going. Asheville's 7.48 hits allowed per nine innings also ranks 32nd nationally.
About the Royals – Queens is in its first season as a Division I program this spring. The Royals have lost six straight games and have notched a record of 3-12. A player to watch for Queens is Riley Cheek. Cheek is leading all Royal hitters with a .377 batting average in 61 at-bats this season.
