Women's Basketball Falls to Wofford on the Road Wednesday Night

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball fell to Wofford on the road Wednesday night (Nov. 29) by a score of 63-54.Â
Asheville jumped out to a 6-2 lead through the first three minutes and change, before the teams eventually played to a 10-10 deadlock with two and a half minutes to play. The teams played to stalemates at 13-13 and 15-15, before Wofford took a 17-15 lead to the second quarter.
Wofford would build its lead to 21-17 in the first minute and a half of the second quarter, before buckets from Jamaya Blanks and LaImani Simmons would tie the game at 21 with seven minutes to play in the period. Simmons would knock down a big triple to put the Bulldogs ahead 26-23 with four minutes to play in the quarter, before Asheville hit a cold spell to end the period and Wofford would score late buckets to take a 27-26 lead to the half.
Each team scored 16 points in the third quarter, leading Wofford to take a 43-42 lead to the fourth. The teams went back and forth in the period before tying up at 35 with five and a half minutes to play, before Wofford built a four-point lead with just over three minutes to play in the period. Asheville's last bucket of the frame came with just over a minute, when Asheville forced the issue in the press and Simmons picked up a steal, before McKinley Brooks-Sumpter cleaned up the offensive glass with a rebound to give Asheville a 42-41 lead. A late Wofford bucket gave the Terriers the lead headed to the fourth.
Wofford would outscore Asheville 20-12 in the final period, leading by as many as 13 in the frame before a last burst from Asheville brought the game to its final score.
