Women's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Tilt at Charlotte on Tuesday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball dropped its non-conference tilt at Charlotte on Tuesday (Nov. 14) by a score of 67-51.
A slow-moving first quarter saw the teams deadlocked at 9-9 through 10 minutes of play. Charlotte seemed to find the offensive groove in the second, out-scoring Asheville 18-9 in the period and taking a 27-18 lead to the half.
Charlotte would continue to build its lead in the third quarter, out-scoring Asheville 21-11 in the frame to stretch the lead further. Asheville would battle back in the fourth quarter to out-score Charlotte 22-19 in the period. Asheville trailed by as many as 21 in the period but battled back to get the deficit to 10 with three minutes to play. Charlotte would hang on in the final few minutes for the home victory.
Asheville shot 29.7 percent (19-64) from the field, 17.6 percent (3-17) from beyond the arc and 43.5 percent (10-23) from the charity stripe in the game. Jamaya Blanks led the way with 10 points, while Mallory Bruce and Abigail Wilson each had nine. Jaila Lee and McKinley Brooks-Sumpter each scored seven points in the game, while LaImani Simmons had four, Faith Adams and Briauna Thompson each had two and Dakota McCaughan had one. Wilson led the Bulldogs on the boards with seven rebounds in the game, while Blanks and Brooks-Sumpter each had six. Lee pulled down five in the game, while Thompson had four, Adams had two and Simmons, Nycerra Minnis and Millie Brown each had one. Brooks-Sumpter and Adams each had a team-high three assists in the game, while Wilson and Simmons each had one. Brooks-Sumpter, Blanks and Bruce each had one steal in the game for Asheville, while Lee and Thompson each posted blocks in the game.
