Swimming & Diving opens 2023 by hosting Gardner-Webb on Friday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swimming & diving team will open the 2023 portion of its schedule on Friday when it hosts Gardner-Webb at the Justice Center Pool. Friday's meet is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – In their last meet before the holiday break, the Bulldogs rolled to a 148-95 victory at Florida Gulf Coast back on December 20. With the win, Asheville improves to 5-0 in dual meets this season, which includes a perfect 3-0 mark against league foes.
CCSA Swimmer of the Week – Prior to Asheville's win over Florida Gulf Coast, Caitlin Hefner was named the CCSA Swimmer of the Week for competitions held between December 12-18. Hefner joins Delaney Carlton (Swimmer - October 4), Morgan Coughlen (Diver - October 4), and Jade Canady (Diver - October 4) as Asheville's weekly award winners in 2022-23.
Note from Coach – "The staff is excited to kick off 2023 with a home dual meet against CCSA conference rival, Gardner-Webb," said Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins. "We are wrapping up our winter training block and looking forward to racing before classes begin next week. Friday is a great opportunity to start preparing for conference championships which are less than six weeks away."
Series Rewind vs. Runnin' Bulldogs – The all-time series between Asheville and Gardner-Webb is currently tied 5-5. Asheville, which knocked off the Runnin' Bulldogs earlier this season by a score of 236-48, has won five straight against Gardner-Webb dating back to 2018.
