CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Delaney Carlton and Morgan Coughlen of the UNC Asheville swimming & diving team were named the Collegiate Coastal Sports Association's (CCSA) Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, on Tuesday afternoon. It marks the first weekly award of Coughlen's career, while for Carlton it marks her fourth such honor.
"Last weekend was in a tremendous effort on both the boards and in the pool," said UNC Asheville Head Swimming & Diving Coach Elizabeth Lykins. "It's great to see these ladies being recognized for their hard work and contributions to the team win over East Carolina."Â
Carlton played a key role in Asheville downing ECU, 160-140, in its first meet of the 2022-23 season over the weekend. Every event she competed in; Carlton won. Individually, Carlton won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.42 and paced the field in the 100-yard freestyle clocking in at 51.41. Both marks were personal and team-best marks for that event in a dual meet. Carlton also helped Asheville win the 200-yard medley relay (1:46.01) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:30.01). Serving as the anchor in both relays, Carlton's splits were 22.72 and 50.74, respectively.Â
Coughlen led the way for Asheville's divers in last weekend's 160-140 win over ECU. Coughlen finished in fourth place in both 1-meter diving events last Friday with point totals of 201.30 and 210.20. Both of those point totals not only paced the Bulldogs but got Asheville some key points to fuel its victory over the Pirates.Â
Asheville will return to action on October 22 when it hosts Campbell for its first conference meet of the season. The start time for that meet is set for 10:30 a.m. on ESPN+.
