Baseball looks to keep rolling Tuesday when it makes a road trip to Charlotte

04.25.2022 | Baseball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Coming off an impressive three-game sweep of Radford over the weekend, the UNC Asheville baseball team will look to keep things rolling on Tuesday when it hits the road to take on Charlotte. The first pitch between the Bulldogs and 49ers is set for 6 p.m.

Last Time Out – Asheville finished off the aforementioned sweep of Radford on Sunday with a dominant 12-2 win. The victory boosted Asheville's overall record to 16-20 and 10-5 in Big South play. The 10-5 record puts Asheville in sole possession of third place in the Big South standings.

Breaking out the Brooms – Sunday's win over Radford clinched the second sweep of the season for the Bulldogs, with the other being against Charleston Southern last month. It marks the first time Asheville has swept a road series vs. a Big South opponent since 2012 (High Point). 2012 is also the last season that the Bulldogs have swept more than one league series in a single year (High Point, VMI).

Ode to the Offense – Asheville's offense was definitely firing on all cylinders over the weekend. Highlighted by a 25-run outburst on Saturday, the Bulldogs hit .368 against Radford's pitching staff and outscored them 46-17. The 25 runs scored by Asheville on Saturday is the second-most the team has ever scored in a single game (33 is the most) and the most ever against a Big South foe.

Bacot Stays Hot – Dylan Bacot continues to be one of the hottest hitters in the Big South after yet another stellar weekend at the plate. Bacot finished the week hitting .583 with 10 RBI, six runs scored to go along with an on-base percentage of .650. Over his last 10 games, Bacot is hitting .543 with 19 RBI, 11 runs scored, and seven extra-base hits (five doubles, a triple, a home run) to go with an on-base percentage of .625.

Non-Conference Notes – Tuesday's game in Charlotte is one of three non-conference games left on the schedule for the Bulldogs in 2022. Asheville will host Wofford on May 4 before traveling to take on ETSU on May 10. Two Bulldogs that have fared well against non-league foes have been Dominic Freeberger (.304, 12 RBI) and Tylan Reece (.303, four RBI).

About Charlotte – Like the Bulldogs, Charlotte has been playing well lately as it brings a four-game winning streak into Tuesday's game. The 49ers, who swept UAB over the weekend, are a team powered by their offense. Collectively, Charlotte is hitting .287 as a team and has out-homered opponents this season from 56 to 35.

Series Rewind vs. Charlotte – The all-time series between Asheville and Charlotte dates all the way back to 1985. The 49ers have won 25 of the 29 matchups between the two programs, including the last three meetings. Asheville's last win over Charlotte came on March 5, 2014, by a score of 5-1.

How to Follow – Tuesday's game will not be streamed, but live stats will be available HERE, and an online radio broadcast will be as well HERE.
