Golf to open up Big South Championship Wednesday

04.12.2022 | Women's Golf

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – With the Big South Conference releasing its official seedings on Tuesday morning, the UNC Asheville Golf team sets its eyes on the 2022 Big South Championship which opens up Wednesday. The tournament, which is hosted by USC Upstate, will be played at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, South Carolina.

The Bulldogs, who check in with the No. 7 seed, will have a practice round Wednesday morning, before teeing off the first 18 of the tournament in the afternoon. Asheville should have some familiarity with the course, as last year's tournament was held at the same location, with Madyson Gold finishing T-14.

A look at the Spring
After competing in five fall tournaments, the Bulldogs teed it up four times this spring, with their last tournament (Brickyard Collegiate) being cut short due to inclement weather.

Venecia Zaia continued her strong sophomore campaign, opening with back-to-back T-27 finishes before a T-11 finish at the Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate, which would be her fourth Top-15 finish in the 2021-22 campaign.

Phoebe Carles had a strong outing at the Any Given Tuesday tournament as well, firing three rounds in the 70s to finish T-26 after a T-31 at the Low Country Intercollegiate.

In round two of the Brickyard Collegiate last week, Amber Capote and Baylee Evans registered a 76 and 77, respectively, before round three was canceled due to rain.
