Bulldogs drop a neutral site decision to Appalachian State

HICKORY, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night as Appalachian State knocked off the Bulldogs by a score of 11-1 at a game played at L.P. Frans Stadium, the High-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers.
Asheville picked up a total of four hits in Tuesday's contest, with two of those going for extra bases. Dominic Freeberger extended his on-base streak to 21 straight games with a double in the first inning. Dylan Bacot also had a double, drew a walk, and scored a run, while Michael Groves and Fermin Osio.
On the pitching side, the Bulldogs used a total of five pitchers on Tuesday. Cole Schiff started the game for Asheville and allowed five runs on four hits. Blake Little and JP Perez had the best outings of the Bulldog relievers combining for 3.2 innings where they did not allow an earned run.
The Mountaineers jumped on the Bulldogs with a run in the top of the first and added two-run innings in the second and third to open a 5-0 lead. Asheville scored a run in the fourth, but the Mountaineers answered back with one run in the sixth and five more in the seventh to finish off the 11-1 victory.
Asheville will be back in action this weekend when it opens a three-game Big South series at Presbyterian. The series will begin Friday at 6 p.m., and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
