03.17.2022 | Women's Tennis

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Women's Tennis secured their ninth win of the season at Western Carolina Thursday afternoon behind a straight-set victory from sophomore Beatrice Faureng.

The Bulldogs went back to old form in doubles play, taking the point on the No. 1 and 2 courts.

The young duo of freshman Ari Siegel and sophomore Linge Steenkamp took the first point on the second court 6-2, a short while after Rosie Dickson and Ami Grace Dougah took the second point on the first court, 6-2.

In singles play, the Bulldogs secured an early victory when Dougah won her match due to retirement on the No. 2 court, finishing the match up 2-1 before it was stopped.

Asheville then dropped three singles matches in a row all in straight sets on the No. 3, 4, and 6 courts, before Lize Alet Morkel earned a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory on the No. 1 court.

Tied at 3-3, Faureng delivered for the Bulldogs pulling out a 7-6 (2-0), 6-4 match victory on the No. 5 court.

The win moves the Bulldogs to 9-2 on the year with just one more non-conference match left on the schedule.
