Bulldogs battle to a 2-2 draw vs. Longwood
10.18.2022 | Men's Soccer
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Heath Flathau and Sam Pitts-Eckersall both netted goals to help the UNC Asheville men's soccer team pick up a 2-2 tie against Longwood Tuesday afternoon in Big South action from a chilly Greenwood Field.
Longwood would begin the scoring on Tuesday with a goal from Ethan Stevenson in the 16th minute. In an attempt to answer, the Bulldogs logged multiple offensive chances.
One of those attempts paid off as a spot-on cross from Sam Presser found Flathau on the other side and he chipped in to tie the score at 1-1. It marks Flathau's first goal as a Bulldog and of his collegiate career.
Asheville would strike again in the 51st minute. Brendan Herb lined a perfect pass through the Lancer defense to Pitts-Eckersall who beat the keeper to put the Bulldogs up 2-1. The goal was Pitts-Eckersall's sixth of the season, which is one shy of the league lead.
The Lancers would tie the score once again in the 62nd minute when a Longwood corner kick landed in a box and then a shot attempt found the back of the net.
Each team would have chances after that score but neither team found the go-ahead marker. With Tuesday's tie, the Bulldogs are now 1-9-4 overall and 0-2-3 in Big South play, while Longwood is now 1-8-4 overall and 0-4-1 in league action.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday when they visit High Point in another Big South matchup. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Panthers is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
