ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will hit the road for a Big South matchup at High Point on Friday. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Panthers is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – Asheville battled Longwood to a 2-2 draw last Tuesday at Greenwood Field. With the tie, the Bulldogs are now 1-9-4 overall and 0-2-3 in Big South play.
One, Two, Three, Four Draw – Tuesday's tie was Asheville's fourth of the 2022 season. The four ties this season match the program record for draws in a season. The 2008 Bulldogs also finished with four ties on their way to a 7-8-4 record in that campaign.
Freshman finds the back of the net again – One of Asheville's two goals on Tuesday came from freshman Sam Pitts-Eckersall. With the goal, Pitts-Eckersall moved into sole possession of second place on the Big South goal scoring list behind only Campbell's Jalen James who has scored seven goals this season.
About the Panthers – High Point figures to be riding high as it is coming off a 2-1 win over No. 7 Maryland last Monday. HPU's strength lies in its defense as it ranks second in the Big South in terms of goals against average (1.154) entering Friday's match with Asheville.
Series Rewind vs. High Point – High Point has won the last 12 matches in the all-time series against the Bulldogs with an overall record of 21-5-2. Asheville, however, has played the Panthers tight recently as four of the last five matches have been decided by one goal. The Bulldogs are looking for their first win against High Point since 2005.
