Bulldogs Drop Series Opener to Charleston Southern

Wade Chandler collected three of Asheville's six hits in the contests continuing his hot streak at the plate. With the three hits Thursday, Chandler is now hitting .409 on the season. Brandon Lankford, Michael Groves, and Grayson Preslar also picked up hits for the Bulldogs.
Charleston Southern jumped on the Bulldogs early, scoring multiple runs in three of the first four innings to stake starter RJ Petit to a 7-0 lead. Asheville looked like it might spark a rally in the fourth as it loaded the bases with nobody out. Petit, however, did a great job avoiding the huge inning as he allowed just one run (not earned) to score.
Avoiding the Asheville rally, the Buccaneer offense again scored multi-run innings in the sixth and eighth to eventually grow its lead to 12 at 13-1, which turned out to be the final score.
Overall, Asheville used seven pitchers in Thursday's series opener. Ryan Douglas and Ryan Stalker had the best outings of those appearances as neither allowed a run to score in 1.1 and two innings, respectively.
The Bulldogs and Charleston Southern will wrap up their three-game series on Friday when they play a doubleheader at Greenwood Field. The twin bill is scheduled to get underway at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
