Asheville visits nationally-ranked High Point for Big South Semifinal

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Having just played last Thursday, the UNC Asheville men's soccer team will travel to High Point on Wednesday to face the Panthers in a Big South Semifinal matchup scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
How they got Here
Sitting just outside of the top four, the Bulldogs were in a must-win scenario on Sunday, defeating Gardner-Webb emphatically 4-0 to clinch a berth into the 2021 Big South Spring Men's Soccer Championship Tournament. The Bulldogs enter the season at 3-4-1 overall, having only played Big South opponents due to Covid. The appearance in the Big South Tournament is the first since 2016 for Asheville, and the program's first semifinal appearance since 2008. 
All-Conference Honors
The Big South Conference announced its men's soccer postseason honors and awards on Tuesday afternoon, with UNC Asheville's Miles Peay earning First Team All-Conference honors while Conor Behan and Leon Musial were named to the All-Freshman Team. Additionally, forward Taylor Durall was named the 2020-21 Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming the third Asheville men's soccer player to do so and the first since 2002.
Scouting the Panthers
High Point finished the regular season a perfect 8-0 in Big South play, while going 10-1 overall. Receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, the Panthers are ranked 14th by Top Drawer Soccer and 24th by College Soccer News. High Point has a potent offense, ranking in the top three in Division I in: total goals (34), total points (103), total assists (35), points per game (9.36) and assists per game (3.18). Leading the offensive charge is MD Meyers who ranks second in the country with 12 goals and 29 points while leading Division I with an average of 1.09 goals per game. In net, Holden Trent has recorded five clean sheets, ranking 10th nationally. 
Series History
High Point has gotten the better of Asheville in their matchups historically, going 15-2-2 all-time. The Bulldogs have won twice, in 2004 and 2005, tying the Panthers twice in 2008 and 2011. Last week High Point went down 1-0 early, but scored five straight to take the contest.
