Baseball Opens Big South Play at High Point

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After some schedule changes, the UNC Asheville baseball team will now open Big South play this weekend at High Point. The Bulldogs and Panthers will play twice Saturday, followed by a single game Sunday. Each day's start time is set for 1 p.m., and all three games will air on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – The Bulldogs played an official game on its home field for the first time in 660 days as they hosted Wofford last Tuesday at Greenwood Field. Tuesday's game was a back-and-forth contest, with the Terriers eventually coming out on top in 11 innings, 10-9.
Fine Start for Freshman – Freshman Justin Honeycutt continues to have a stellar start to his collegiate career on the mound. The Fayetteville, N.C. native pitched two more scoreless innings against Wofford bringing his scoreless inning streak to six to begin his time in a Bulldog uniform. Additionally, Honeycutt leads the team with seven strikeouts and has held opposing hitters to a .118 batting average.
Fine Performance from Freeberger – Dominic Freeberger had a stellar game against Wofford as he drove in four of the team's nine runs in a 2-for-6 performance with a pair of doubles. The four RBI are the most by a Bulldog since Greg Gasparro drove in four at UAB last February.
Sebastian on a Stellar Streak – Senior Sebastian Dunn enters this weekend's series at High Point riding a three-game hitting streak. Dunn is hitting .455 with two RBI during this stretch. Overall, Dunn leads all Asheville hitters with at least 15 at-bats this season with a .368 average.
About High Point – High Point will also open its Big South schedule this weekend. HPU has played a pair of three-game series against Bryant and UNCG so far in 2021. The Panthers, who are 2-4, are a team led by their pitching staff. Overall, High Point's pitchers have a 3.40 ERA, struck out 54 batters in 53 innings, and have held opposing hitters to a .215 batting average.
Series Rewind vs. High Point – The all-time series between Asheville and High Point consists of over 60 games. The Panthers have held the edge going 43-22 against Asheville, including seven straight wins over the Bulldogs.
