Baseball Hosts Campbell for three at Greenwood Field

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team will open its Big South home schedule this weekend as it welcomes Campbell for a three-game series. Asheville and Campbell will play a doubleheader on Saturday (1 p.m.) before playing a single game on Sunday (2 p.m.).
Last Time Out – Asheville dropped a close game on the road at USC Upstate Wednesday by a score of 4-1.
Finally Home for a While – Starting with this weekend's series against Campbell, the Bulldogs are scheduled to play their next 10 games at Greenwood Field. Asheville played its first home game in 660 days back on March 2 against Wofford, where it dropped a close one, 10-9, in 11 innings. The Bulldogs will also host Gardner-Webb (March 23), Radford (March 26-27), and Presbyterian (April 1-2) during this stretch.
Stat of the Day – One highlight for the Bulldogs during the first month of the season has been their ability to produce in bases-loaded situations. Overall, Asheville is hitting .615 in 13 at-bats with the bases full of Bulldogs so far in 2021. Ty Kaufman has led the way with three hits in these situations in four opportunities.
Boost in Big South Play – Asheville has received a boost offensively during Big South play from Grayson Preslar and Michael Groves. Preslar is hitting .364 with three doubles, three walks, and three RBI against conference foes, while Groves has picked up eight hits in 23 at-bats (.348 average) with four runs scored, four RBI, and three walks.
About Campbell – Campbell is 9-5 so far this spring, but 13 of the 14 games have been at home. The Camels are a balanced team with stellar hitting and pitching stats. Offensively, Campbell has a trio of hitters boasting a .340 batting average or higher. The Camels have slugged 13 home runs and stole 21 bases as well. On the mound, Campbell has a team ERA of 3.48, average over a strikeout per inning pitched (125 K's in 124 innings) and has held opposing hitters to a .229 batting average.
Series Rewind vs. Campbell – Asheville and Campbell have met over 50 times over the years, with the Fighting Camels holding a 37-19 lead in the all-time series. In each of the last two series between the two programs, Campbell won two of the three games.
