Cross Country Turns in Strong Day at Radford

02.12.2021 | Cross Country

RADFORD, Va. – Freshman Adam Hessler won the men's race with a time of 25:07.01 to lead the UNC Asheville cross country teams Friday at Radford's Highlander Invitational. Overall, both the men's and women's teams placed second among the three teams that competed.

The women's team was led Friday by the tandem of Clara Wincheski (18:28.3) and India Appleton (18:32.1), who placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 26-runner field. The trio of Makenna Pallozzi (19:30.9), Leah Given (19:41.6), and Alyx Evans (19:55.4) also finished the 4.7k race in under 20 minutes.

During the men's race, the Bulldogs were led by some of their youngest runners. As mentioned earlier, Hessler paced the field finishing with a time of 25:07.01. It marks the second straight race that he has posted the fastest time for Asheville. His time was nearly 30 seconds faster than the runner that finished in second place, which was another Bulldog, Gunner Hogston (25:30.8). Fellow freshman Daniel Hopkins (25:36.9) was not too far behind Hessler and Hogston placing fifth.

Next up for the Bulldogs is the Big South Cross Country Championships on March 5. The Championships will take place in Rock Hill, S.C. Stay tuned to uncabulldogs.com for more information on the Championships as that date draws closer.
