ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will open its 2021-22 season on Tuesday with a non-conference matchup with UNC Greensboro. Tip-off for Tuesday's matchup is set for 11 a.m., and the game can be seen on ESPN+.

Quick Look Back at 2020-21 – Asheville went 10-15 overall, and 9-10 in Big South play during Head Coach Honey Brown's first season leading the program. After the season, Nadiria Evans was named to the All-Big South First Team, and Kai Carter landed All-Big South Second Team honors.

Preseason Predictions – Looking forward to the 2021-22 season, the Bulldogs were picked to finish seventh in the annual Preseason Big South Coaches' Poll. Additionally, Evans was named to the Preseason All-Big South squad for the second straight season as a part of the release.

Evans Entering a Fifth Season – Evans will enter her fifth season as a Bulldog in 2021-22. The Gainesville, Florida native enters her fifth year as the Big South's leading returning scorer with 1,285 points. Evans' point total ranks eighth all-time in program history, and she needs just 19 more points to move into seventh place on Asheville's all-time scoring list passing former Bulldog great Kristal Hood (2002-05) and her 1,303 points.

Bulldogs Coming Back – In addition to Evans and Carter, Asheville will have several other familiar faces on the team this season. The Bulldogs have five other returners from the 2020-21 team, including regular starters from Faith Adams and Abigail Wilson.

Meet the Newcomers – Along with the returning players, Asheville added six new players this offseason. Of the six, five are freshmen, along with one transfer. The lone transfer is McKinley Brooks-Sumpter, who transferred to Asheville after spending last season with fellow Big South School, USC Upstate. The five freshmen on Asheville's roster are Alonna Sellers, Jordaynia Ivie, Mallory Bruce, Jadah Shears, and Carly Fahey.

About UNCG – The Spartans posted an 8-16 overall record and a 6-8 in Southern Conference play a season ago. UNCG will have a veteran team coming back in 2021-22 with 10 returners to go along with seven new players to add to the mix. On Tuesday, a player to watch for the Spartans is Preseason All-SoCon player Aja Boyd, who nearly averaged a double-double (11.2 points, 7.1 rebounds) last season.

Series Rewind vs. UNCG – Tuesday's game between the Bulldogs and Spartans will mark the 20th time the two programs have met since their first matchup during the 1991-92 season. UNCG has won 15 of the 19 previous games, but Asheville has won three of the last four in the series.
