Bulldogs picked seventh in Preseason Poll; Evans picked Preseason All-Big South

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team was picked to finish seventh in the Big South Conference's Preseason Poll, while Nadiria Evans was named to the Preseason All-Big South First Team as a part of the league's media day on Wednesday.
Defending conference champion High Point was picked to repeat as the Big South's top team in 2021-22 after collecting 11 of the 12 first-place votes and 143 points. Not too far behind the Panthers, Campbell (121 points), Longwood (119 points), and league newcomer North Carolina A&T (114 points) round out the projected top four teams.
Gardner-Webb (93 points), Radford (76 points), UNC Asheville (70 points), Presbyterian (70 points) were projected to be in the middle of the pack. The quartet of Hampton (50 points), USC Upstate (38 points), Winthrop (23 points), and Charleston Southern (18 points) closed out the poll.
Evans, an All-Big South First Team honoree after last season, will open her fifth season in a Bulldog uniform as the Big South's leading returning scorer with 1,285 points. In 2020-21, Evans led Asheville in points scored (429), scoring average (17.2 PPG), field goals made and attempted (151, 358), free throws made and attempted (126, 177), assists (83), and steals (38). Evans, a Preseason All-Big South team member prior to last season, becomes just the fourth Bulldog to earn multiple Preseason All-Big South honors, joining Vicki Giffin, Emily Hill, and Kristal Hood.
Asheville will open its 2021-22 season on November 9 when it travels to UNC Greensboro. The Bulldogs will open their home schedule a few days later on November 15, when it hosts Mars Hill. To check out the team's entire schedule click HERE.
