10.15.2021 | Women's Volleyball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team will head back out on the road Saturday as it visits Radford in another Big South matchup. The first serve of Saturday's match, which can be seen on ESPN+, is set for 2 p.m.

Last Time Out – Despite a 13-kill, 11-dig outing from Peyton McClinton, the Bulldogs fell in three sets (25-19, 25-19, 25-17) at USC Upstate on Tuesday. The loss pushed Asheville's overall record to 4-12 and its league mark to 2-5.

Finding their mark in the Big South –
The Bulldogs are nearly halfway through their Big South schedule, and they boast a couple of attackers that rank near the top of the league in terms of hitting percentage. Both Lexy Cole and Kat Cruser boast hitting percentages of .256, which is tied for the seventh-best in Big South contests.

Serving up Success in October –
Senior Grace Volk has been one of the Big South's most effective servers since October has begun. Volk is tied for third in the league with seven aces so far this month, and she is Asheville's overall leader in aces in 2021 with 14.

Bulldogs on the Block –
Asheville currently has a streak of stellar work upfront on the block. The Bulldogs have totaled at least six blocks in the last three matches, including a season-high 12 in the 3-0 win over Gardner-Webb on October 8. Recently, a big reason for Asheville's improved blocking has been Nina Finderle, who has totaled two solo blocks to go with 12 block assists in the last three matches.

About Radford –
Radford, who will play USC Upstate Friday evening, enters this weekend's play sporting a 2-16 record overall and a 0-6 mark in league action. A player to watch for the Highlanders is Kennedi Johnson, who leads the team in kills (137), blocks (58), points scored (185.5), and hitting percentage (.286).

Series Rewind vs. Radford –
The series between the Bulldogs and Highlanders has been a competitive one. Asheville holds a slight 35-33 advantage all-time against Radford, thanks to a pair of wins during the spring season earlier this year.
