Baseball to Face Georgia State in Midweek Matchup

ATLANTA, GA. – UNC Asheville baseball will travel to Atlanta, Ga. for a midweek matchup with Georgia State, Wednesday, March 11. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the GSU Baseball Complex.
The Bulldogs are 5-10 in the young season and are coming off of a three-game sweep of Coppin State last weekend where the Bulldogs outscored the Eagles 17-4 in the three games.
Blake Brown was named Big South Starting Pitcher of the Week for his start versus the Eagles Saturday. Brown earned the win as the senior threw 5.2 scoreless innings while striking out seven and allowing only one hit. Opposing batters hit just a meager .059 against the right-handed hurler.
Greg Gasparro led the way with four hits in three games versus Coppin State and seven hits in four games last week. The senior centerfielder closed out the three-game weekend series with an .833 slugging percentage as he hit two homeruns, had three RBIs and scored four runs while accumulating 10 total bases. Gasparro was also a perfect 3-3 in stolen bases.
Georgia State is 8-6 on the season and is coming off of a three-game sweep of North Alabama last weekend. The Panthers are hitting .274 as a team and currently have five players hitting over .300 and player who has eclipsed the .400 mark.
On the mound, Georgia State pitchers have a collective 5.40 ERA and have struck out 133 batters in 125 innings pitched. The Panthers have allowed 75 earned runs on 103 hits this season.
The Panthers will take on Mercer Tuesday evening before their matchup with the Bulldogs on Wednesday.
