ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville's women's soccer team will close out its three-match homestand at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, versus mountain rival Western Carolina.
The Bulldogs (2-5) won an overtime thriller, 1-0, against ETSU, August 25. Junior Skyler Chillson scored the golden goal on an assist by Chloe Lamenzo midway through the overtime period to give the Bulldogs their first road victory since the 2017 season.
UNC Asheville's second win of the season came Wednesday, September 11, with a 2-0 victory against Mars Hill. The victory was the Bulldogs' second shutout this season. Isabella Piso picked up her first career goal to put the Bulldogs up 1-0. A few moments later, Chloe Lamenzo found the back of the net for her first goal in a Bulldog uniform to give the Bulldogs the 2-0 finish.
The Catamounts (5-2) opened their season with three straight home games that began with a 2-1 victory over Big South member Gardner-Webb. They then fell to Middle Tennessee before picking up a home victory against UT Martin. Western Carolina split their only two road matches so far with a win against Davidson and 5-0 loss to Charlotte.
The Catamounts rebounded last week with two home victories over Big South members, High Point and Radford.
The last time the Bulldogs faced off with Western Carolina at Greenwood Field, the Catamounts picked up the 3-0 victory in the 2015 season. These two programs have faced off twice since that 2015 matchup, 2016 and 2018. Both matchups were in Cullowhee, N.C., with the Bulldogs coming away with the victory in 2016 before falling to the Catamounts last season.
